The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), in partnership with Hockey Canada, announced Friday the details of an exhibition series featuring Canada’s National Women’s Team and the AJHL. Team Canada’s centralization roster will play four AJHL clubs in its preparation for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China.
“The Alberta Junior Hockey League is excited to compete against Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Team in their preparation for a Gold medal pursuit in Beijing,” said AJHL Commissioner Ryan Bartoshyk. “The AJHL is proud to have goaltender Shannon Szabados, coach Mel Davidson and current National Team member Emerance Maschmeyer as alumni of our League and look forward to hosting and embracing these games within our communities.”
Spectators are welcome to attend all games in the series while adhering to the facility guidelines in place to ensure overall safety of the athletes and fans. Tickets can be purchased from the host AJHL team in advance and on game day. All games in the series will be broadcast live on HockeyTV, the official streaming partner of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
With the Women’s Worlds complete, the coaching staff and 29 players selected to centralize in Calgary, AB have resumed their Olympic training, which is also expected to include games against the United States, as well as a potential series against Finland. The National Women’s Team recently concluded games versus the Trail Smoke Eaters and Cranbrook Bucks of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). A full schedule for the National Women’s Team, presented by Sobeys, will be announced at a later date.
Canada’s final 23-player roster for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games is tentatively scheduled to be unveiled in late December 2021.
