OKOTOKS, AB – Okotoks Oiler alumnus Jacob Bernard-Docker (Canmore, AB) will play for Team Canada at the upcoming IIHF World Championship, it was announced today.
Bernard-Docker will be the first alumnus in team history to compete at the prestigious event, as one of eight defencemen on the Canadian roster announced today.
The 20-year old recently made his National Hockey League debut, having dressed in five games for the Ottawa Senators this season after finishing his third campaign with the University of North Dakota.
Bernard-Docker previously won gold medals for Team Canada at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge and the 2020 World Junior Hockey Championship.
He played two seasons for the Oilers in 2016-17 and 2017-18, helping the team capture an AJHL South Division championship in 2018. In his final season, he was named the CJHL’s Top Defenceman, the AJHL’s Most Outstanding Defenceman, and was named to the AJHL South All-League Team and the CJHL Top Prospects Game.
Bernard-Docker and Team Canada will open their schedule on May 21st against the host country, Latvia. TSN will broadcast all games of the tournament.
