Drumheller Dragons rookie Grayson Dietrich is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week.  The 18 year-old forward scored 6 points (4G, 2A) in three games from February 17th – 23rd, including his first AJHL hat trick.

Dietrich recorded two assists in a 5-2 win over the Canmore Eagles on Family Day Monday and assisted on the game winning goal.  On Saturday night, the Calgarian recorded a hat trick in a 9-2 victory against the Olds Grizzlys and was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game for the first time this season.  He would earn that honour again the following day when he scored the only goal in a 4-1 loss to the division leading Okotoks Oilers.

Drumheller has claimed third place in the Viterra AJHL South Division standings and will meet the Olds Grizzlys (6th) in Round One of the 2020 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs starting on Sunday, March 1st in Drumheller.

The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Bonnyville Pontiacs goaltender Easton Hesse, who posted a 3-0 record last week.

Hesse, 19, allowed just five goals on 93 shots and wrapped up the week with a 1.67 GAA in three consecutive wins for the Pontiacs.  He opened the week with a 3-1 win over the Drayton Valley Thunder on Family Day stopping 33 of 34 shots.  On Saturday, the Leduc, AB native made 23 saves to defeat the Grande Prairie Storm 5-3.  Easton led his team to a 2-1 victory over the Storm on Sunday, allowing just one goal on 33 shots, and earning his seventh Viterra Star of the Game selection of the season.

Easton Hesse was previously awarded as the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week in September 2019 and December 2019.  He ends the regular season with the third best save percentage among AJHL goaltenders at .913%.

The fourth place Pontiacs will meet the North Division’s fifth place Drayton Valley Thunder in Round One of the 2020 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs beginning Saturday, February 29th in Bonnyville.
