Canalta Hotels Player of the Week & AB Ford Defensive Player of the Week

Spruce Grove Saints forward Graham Gamache is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week.  The 17 year-old rookie scored 4 goals and added 5 assists in three games from December 2nd – 8th, 2019.

Gamache (Edmonton, AB) recorded a goal and 2 assists to open the week in an 8-3 win over the Lloydminster Bobcats on Wednesday night.  The Saints and Crusaders met in a battle for number one in the North Division on Saturday with the Crusaders taking the game by a score of 6-3.  Gamache scored a goal and added an assist in the match-up.  On Sunday, Graham was selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game with 2 goals and 2 assists in a 7-2 victory vs Lloydminster.  Gamache scored Sunday’s game winner – his second GWG of the season.

Gamache is second in team scoring and third among AJHL rookies with 34 points (10G, 24A), he has also recorded the most assists of all Saints players.  Spruce Grove is 25-6-2 on the season and 7-1-2 in their last 10 games.

The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Brooks Bandits goaltender Pierce Charleson.  In three games last week, Charleson was undefeated with a 1.65 GAA, and improved his record to 25-1-1.

On Tuesday night, Charleson stopped 20 shots as the Bandits defeated the Olds Grizzlys 6-2.  The following night, Charleson held the Drumheller Dragons to a 2-1 finish, stopping 33 of 34 shots to record the win.  The 19 year-old recorded his third win of the week on Friday night with a 4-2 win over the Dragons and a 22-save performance. 

The Michigan State (NCAA Division I) commit is 5th overall in the AJHL with a 2.27 GAA and .904 SV%.  Charleson and the Bandits lead the AJHL Standings at 31-1-1 and currently hold top spot in the CJHL Weekly Rankings.
