Pontiacs Release: Letestu Makes NHL Debut
November 15, 2009
Former Bonnyville Pontiac, Mark Letestu, made his National Hockey league debut last night (Nov. 14) as his Pittsburgh Penguins took on the visiting Boston Bruins at Mellon Arena. The game was hi-lighted by the return of 2009 Conn Smythe Award winner, Evgeni Malkin after missing seven games with a shoulder injury. The Penguins superstar duo of Malkin and Sidney Crosby combined for six points, but it was veteran Bill Guerin forcing overtime with :00.4 remaining, setting the stage for Pascal Dupuis winner at 1:24 of overtime. The Penguins would take the game by a 6-5 score.
For Letestu it will be a night he will never forget. Wearing #38 and playing center, Letestu recorded no points and a +1 rating on 8:16 of playing time. After being recalled from Wilkes-Barre Scranton of the AHL Oct. 30, the former AJHL Most Valuable Player was inserted into Saturday’s lineup as the Penguins continue to battle injuries.
The Pontiacs organization would like to congratulate Mark and his family on this amazing accomplishment. We wish you continued success!
