PONTIACS PRESS RELEASE: Bates Commits to Merrimack College

The Bonnyville Pontiacs are pleased to announce that 18-year-old forward, Shawn Bates (Fort Saskatchewan, AB) has verbally committed to attend Merrimack College (Hockey East) for the 2010-2011 season.
Currently, the smooth skating Bates sits among team leaders in goals, assists, shorthanded goals and game winners. The 2007-2008 season, Shawn’s first with the Pontiacs, was highlighted by a 16 goal, 39 point campaign. At seasons end, Shawn was selected to the AJHL North All-Rookie Team and was a candidate for AJHL Rookie-of-the-Year.
Shawn joins Steven Seigo (Michigan-Tech University), as the second member of the 2008-2009 Bonnyville Pontiacs committed to NCAA Division I schools.
The Pontiacs would like to congratulate Shawn and his family. We are extremely proud of Shawn and his accomplishments. We look forward to his continued contributions to the Pontiacs and wish him much success in his future at Merrimack College.
