AJHL Announces 2007-2008 Schedule

July 4th, 2007- The Alberta Junior Hockey League has announced the League Schedule for the 2007-2008 Regular Season and 2007 Pre-Season. The Regular Season Schedule will consist of 16 teams playing an unbalanced schedule of 62 games apiece.  The Alberta Junior Hockey League will embark on its 44th season beginning on Friday, September 7th, 2007 through to February 27th, 2008.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League will commence the 2007 Exhibition Season on Thursday, August 23rd.  Select AJHL teams will play exhibition games against opponents from the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport Men’s Hockey (CIS) during the pre-season.  The 37-game Exhibition Season will conclude on Thursday, September 6th. 

The Alberta Junior Hockey League has introduced the addition of a Showcase Tournament in 2007!  The AJHL Showcase Weekend will be held in Calgary and Okotoks, Alberta from October 11th – 13th, 2007.    The Alberta Junior Hockey League will highlight the talents and potential of its players through this 16-game Tournament, which will showcase each of the League’s 16 teams playing two regular season games.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League has formed a new partnership with Reebok-CCM Hockey, the new official equipment supplier to the AJHL starting with the 2007-2008 AJHL season.  The partnership agreement between Reebok-CCM Hockey and the AJHL is one that will build on player promotion and development.  Marketing funds provided by Reebok-CCM Hockey will be utilized for player promotion and initiatives including the Showcase Weekend.  The partnership and joint initiatives will assist in player development through exposure to College and NHL Scouts and recognizing talent within Alberta.

Grande Prairie, Alberta will be the host community for the 2008 All-Star Weekend along with the League’s Semi-Annual Meetings and Scholarship Banquet.  The AJHL All-Star Weekend will be held on January 25th – 27th, 2008.

Family Day in Alberta will also be AJHL Family Day!  All 16 member teams will once again participate in a Family Day Game on Monday, February 18th, 2008.  The Alberta Junior Hockey League will be celebrating the provincial holiday by hosting eight exciting Alberta Junior Hockey League games, Hockey Clinics, Family Skating Parties and special games and activities for the kids. 

The Alberta Junior Hockey League is proud to partner with Enerflex Systems Income Fund (Enerflex) as its Championship Sponsor.  Starting in the 2007-2008 Season, the AJHL’s sixteen member teams will battle for the honour to hoist the Enerflex Cup as AJHL Champion.

The 2008 Pamco Jiro Service & Syntech AJHL Playoffs will continue with the same format as used for the 2007 AJHL Playoffs:

Round One: February 29th – March 7th, 2008
The top seven teams in each Division will make the 2008 Pamco Jiro Service & Syntech AJHL Playoffs.  The first place team in each Division will receive a bye during the best-of-five First Round Divisional Playoffs

Round Two: March 7th – 18h, 2008
The first place team will play the lowest place team remaining in their division and the next highest placed team will play the other team in a best-of-seven series.

Round Three – League Semi-Finals (Cross-Over): March 21st – April 1st, 2008
The remaining teams are re-seeded as per their regular season winning percentage for a best-of-seven series.

Round Four – League Final (Provincial Championship): April 5th -15th, 2008
Remaining two teams battle for Enerflex Cup in best-of-seven series.

The Fort Saskatchewan Traders have been relocated to St. Albert, Alberta for the 2007-2008 AJHL Season.  St. Albert has been without an AJHL franchise since the Saints were moved to Spruce Grove, Alberta in 2004.  The St. Albert Junior A Hockey League franchise will be known as the St. Albert Steel.
