Mark Letestu Named League MVP

Mark Letestu of the Bonnyville Pontiacs has been voted as the Most Valuable Player in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the 2005-06 Regular Season. Letestu was presented with the Alberta Old Time Hockey Players Trophy by League President Kim Marsh prior to tonight’s Rogers Wireless North Division playoff game vs. the Grande Prairie Storm.
Letestu is the second Pontiac player to be awarded the Alberta Old Time Hockey Players Trophy, following in the steps of NHL Alumni Harry York who captured the trophy in 1993-94. Letestu was voted as runner-up behind Mayson Raymond of the Camrose Kodiaks for League MVP in 2004-2005. Letestu was named the Team MVP for the Bonnyville Pontiacs in 2004-05.
Mark Letestu was also awarded the Ernie Love Trophy as the 2005-2006 Alberta Junior Hockey League Scoring Leader. Letestu recorded a league-leading 50 goals and 105 points in 58 regular season games.  Letestu, of Elk Point, Alberta, has joined the Top 40 All-Time Career Point Leaders in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, amassing 248 career points.
The 4th year Pontiac was a member of the 2005-06 AJHL North Division All-Star Team and also represented the Pontiacs on the AJHL North Division Selects Team, the 2006 Viking Cup Tournament Champions. Pontiacs Team Captain, Mark Letestu, had the opportunity to attend Western Michigan of the CCHA this past season, but chose to commit and defer until the 2006-2007 season.
A.J. Mikkelsen of the Drumheller Dragons was the runner-up in voting amongst the League’s General Managers and Coaches. Mikkelsen was named the Outstanding Defenceman in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for 2005-06 over the weekend. The remaining finalists were Logan Gorsalitz (Camrose Kodiaks), Blair Hennes (Fort Saskatchewan Traders) and Chris Wilson (Grande Prairie Storm).
Letestu joins NHL alumni Darryl Sutter, Brent Sutter, Mike Comrie, and Hockey Hall of Fame member Lanny McDonald as a winner of the Alberta Old Time Hockey Players Trophy.
