Fort McMurray, AB – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons expanded its hockey operations staff on Friday, announcing that Randy Buffie (Port Alberni, BC), will join the organization as its new Director of Player Personnel. The addition marks Buffie’s second stint with the Oil Barons, having previously served as a scout with the team during the 2013/14 AJHL season.

“I’m excited to rejoin the Oil Barons,” said Buffie. “The organization is highly respected among Canada’s Junior A ranks and continues to be competitive each and every year.”

“Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with two great hockey guys in Tom (Keca) and Dave (Dupas) and I’m looking forward to working with them again to build off the team’s success from last year,” said Buffie.

Buffie has spent the past two seasons with the Battlefords North Stars of the SJHL. During his time with the North Stars, Buffie served as both head scout and assistant general manager. In that time, Buffie was a key architect in helping build two very competitive North Star teams, including last year’s team which captured the Canalta Cup as SJHL Champions and a berth in the 2017 Western Canada Cup.

Buffie’s affiliation within Canada’s Junior A ranks also dates back further than his time spent with the North Stars and Oil Barons, having served as both an owner and general manager with the Port Alberni Bulldogs of the BCHL.

“In this business, it’s all about working hard and staying competitive by recruiting top players to achieve the ultimate goal of winning a championship,” added Buffie. “Together, I believe we can bring a championship back to Fort McMurray.”

“As an organization, we’re thrilled to welcome Randy back on board,” said MOB Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca.

“Randy’s well known within Canada’s Junior A ranks and has a proven track record for recruiting many top players and translating that into on ice success. As a coaching staff, we’re looking forward to building on the winning culture we’ve established here in Fort McMurray over the years,” added Keca.
