The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce that second year, 1999 born defenceman, TJ Lloyd has secured an NCAA Division I scholarship to Bowling Green State University.  Lloyd will patrol the blueline for the Falcons hockey team, which competes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), starting in the 2019-2020 season. The Falcons have nine NCAA tournament appearances and one National Championship (1984) to the program's credit.

The Lloydminster, Alberta product joins the Falcons after becoming a Saint in the 2016-2017 season. In 54 games as a rookie, Lloyd tallied 3 goals, 9 assists and 12 penalty minutes. TJ has followed his strong rookie campaign with an even better start to the 2017-18 season, compiling 2 goals, 16 assists and 6 penalty minutes in just 32 games played so far this season.

The 5’9”, 175-pound rearguard had an ear to ear smile when asked of his recent commitment. “I am really excited to become a Falcon. They have a great hockey program and a well-respected business program, which is something I want to pursue. I’d like to thank my family for their support; there is no way I would have been able to do this with out them. A big thank you also has to go to Bram, Rob, and the Saints organization for everything they have done for me this season.”

“TJ Lloyd is a special player, he works extremely hard on the ice, in the gym, and in the classroom. He exemplifies what it is to be a Saint,” stated Saints Head Coach Bram Stephen.  ”We knew it was only a matter of time before he would commit and could not be more proud of him.”

The strong start to the 2017-18 season also propelled Lloyd into earning a roster spot on Team Canada West with current Saints teammate Jarrod Gourley. The two Saints accomplished their goal and came home with a Gold Medal at the World Jr. A Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia.

Saints GM Rob Sklaruk had high praise for the Assistant Captain. “TJ has been rock for our team, he brings his 'A' game every night and has been one of our most consistent players this season. He has emerged as a leader both on and off the ice. We feel that he is only scratching the surface of his potential. Bowling Green is going to be very happy with TJ.”

The Saints organization would like to congratulate the Lloyd family and cannot wait to see what TJ’s future holds.
