Saints Win AJHL North Division Title

Posted April 6th, 2013 @ 12:00 am

The Spruce Grove Saints are the 2013 AJHL North Division Champions and have advanced to the League Final for the fourth time in five years.

The Saints eliminated the Whitecourt Wolverines in Game 5 of the North Division Final Series with a 2-1victory on Friday night.  Carson Soucy recorded the game winner at the halfway mark of the second period, and Kenny Cameron posted the win in net for the Saints.

Spruce Grove will now battle the AJHL South Division Champion for the 2013 AJHL Gas Drive Cup.  The Okotoks Oilers lead the Brooks Bandits 3-2 in the South Division Fianals, with Game 6 scheduled for Sunday in Okotoks.

The Spruce Grove Saints earned a first round bye in the North Division for a fifth consecutive season, then eliminated the Sherwood Park Crusaders to advance to the North Division Final.  The Saints were first overall in the North Division with 79 points and a regular season record of 35-16-9.
