AJHL Alumni Competing at Post-Secondary Institutes
November 12th, 2009 – The Alberta Junior Hockey League announced today 223 AJHL Alumni are currently competing on College and University teams across North America for the 2009-2010 season.
141 AJHL alumni are members of NCAA Division I and Division III rosters; 39 alumni are competing at CIS universities and 45 alumni on ACAC teams. A complete list of the above mentioned alumni is available at www.ajhl.ca and will be updated as the 2009-2010 season progresses.
AJHL alumni are currently competing in leagues such as the National Hockey League (NHL), Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and a number of international semi-professional leagues, in addition to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and Alberta Colleges Athletic Association (ACAC).
250 AJHL alumni competed on College and University teams across North America in the 2008-2009 season. During the 2008-2009 AJHL season, over 70 AJHL players committed to a College or University for the 2009-2010 season and beyond.
AJHL alumni continue to succeed in their athletic careers while studying at post-secondary institutes across North America. Spruce Grove Saints Alumnus and Boston University goaltender, Kieran Millan, was awarded the Third Annual Hockey Commissioners’ Association National Rookie of the Year Award in 2008-2009 and led the BU Terriers to the 2009 NCAA Championship . Three AJHL Goaltenders were among the nominees for the 2009 Hobey Baker Memorial Award. AJHL Alumni Chad Johnson, Juliano Pagliero and Ben Scrivens were amongst the prestigious candidates nominated for the national honour. The Hobey Baker Award is given annually to the nation’s top men’s collegiate hockey player.
The Alberta Junior Hockey League formally recognizes each AJHL player who commits to a post-secondary institute through the League website www.ajhl.ca; the current list includes 24 active AJHL players who have already committed to a University or College career.
The Alberta Junior Hockey League continues to be one of the premier developmental Leagues in Canada for student-athletes striving to capitalize on their athletic and academic abilities. By choosing to play in the Alberta Junior Hockey League a player is joining a fraternity of storied athletes through 46 years of athletic and academic excellence. Our student-athletes’ achievements both academically and athletically have been made possible through their choice to play junior hockey in the AJHL.
